DESCRIPTION OF THE PROGRAM:

Morning or Afternoon - Guided tour of batalha monastery.

Built in 1386 as a promise of King Dom João I to the Virgin Mary for blessing and protection to Portugal at the Battle of Aljubarrota on 14 August 1385 against the Kingdom of Castile.

The Monastery of Batalha, a masterpiece of Portuguese Gothic, is a magnificent piece of architecture that combines several influences from its long period of construction, which lasted several reigns.

A highlight inside is the Founder's Chapel, which houses the tomb of D. João I and D. Filipa de Lencastre, as well as the Ínclita Geração, of which the tomb of Infante D. Henrique, known to the Navigator, with its stained glass windows stands out. century XVI present in the main altar, the cloisters, the Imperfect Chapels with their Manueline style and Flemish Gothic elements and the Chapter House that houses the tomb of the unknown soldier, a tribute to our soldiers who fought in the Battle of La Lys, during the World War I, as well as those who fought in the Colonial War.
