We will take a pleasant walk through the city, being the best way to discover the narrow streets of Coimbra full of history, monuments and academic traditions.
We began our visit to the University of Coimbra (1290), a world heritage site since 2013, the Joanina Library, the Chapel of S. Miguel, the Via Latina, the Sala dos Capelos, the Rectory, the Porta Férrea. We continue to Sé Catedral Velha (1162) in Romanesque style, one of the oldest temples in Portugal.
Rua do Quebra Costas, where we can see some academic republics, private houses where students currently live, and where illustrious Portuguese poets once lived, continuing down we find Almedina, gateway to the ancient Moorish city. We end up at the Church of Santa Cruz (1131), founded by the 1st King of Portugal and where he is buried with his son, D. Sancho I. It was also in this Convent that Santo António began his ecclesiastical life.
